

Jean Gray Drake died on April 12, 2013. The second child of William Harold and Elva Inez (Springfield) Gray, Jean was born in Thornton, Texas but spent the majority of her life in Dallas. In her youth Jean loved to dance and was particularly fond of the swing and big band era.
Jean married Jerry Edward Drake on April 20, 1940. She attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in General
Business and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Southern Methodist University in 1953 and 1969 respectively. In 1981 Jean retired from teaching the third grade at Bradfield Elementary School in Highland Park, Texas.
Jean was a member of University Park United Methodist Church, the UPUMC Mr. and Mrs. Class, and the Southern Methodist University Woman’s Club.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jerry E. Drake, Sr.; brothers, Joe and Reuben "Bob" Gray and grandson, William Boren. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Elizabeth "Betty" (John) Watson, Mary "Dianne" (Sam) Boren, Alice "Lynn" (David) Nunns; son, Jerry E. Drake, Jr. (Dr. Michelle A. Emick); grandchildren, Susan (Randy) Case, John "J.D." and Peter Watson, Rebecca Boren and Adrianna Drake and great grandson, Ryan Case.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 20, 2013 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Chapel East Mausoleum. Cryptside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Reception will be at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home immediately following the Cryptside service. Memorial Service will be held at University Park United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m.
