Jean Brennan Anthony died on March 27, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Orange, New Jersey, July 14, 1932, she moved to River Edge, New Jersey, with her family in 1945. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Anthony Paul Anthony, of 62 years. After graduating from high school as valedictorian, Jean attended Parsons School of Design and The Katharine Gibbs School in New York. After working in the fashion industry in New York for a few years, Jean married her childhood sweetheart and together they began a family that included six wonderful children: Susan Mello, Kim Anthony, Cynthia Stoutenburgh, Christopher Anthony, Mary McNulty and her husband Brian, and John Anthony and his wife Katie. When the children were in high school and college, Jean returned to the business world. She worked for FlightSafety International, Inc. for 13 years, rising to the position of General Manager of the Training Systems Division. Later she served for 16 years as Director of Notre Dame Events for Anthony Travel, Inc., a sports travel company founded by her son John and daughter Cynthia. Their 13 adored grandchildren include Edward Mello and his wife Ashley, Christine Dargan and her husband Preston, Kathryn Polk and her husband Steven of Wilmington, North Carolina; Kristen, Alex, Dennis, and Mary Stoutenburgh; Molly and Caitlin McNulty; and Paul, Elizabeth, Maria, and Michael Anthony of South Bend, Indiana. Nine great-grandchildren complete the family: Auburn, Alden, Elliot and Treyvor Polk; Wesley, Decker, and Birdie Mello; and Henley and soon-to-be Madeline Dargan. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Clifford Brennan, and her brother Donald and sister Enid. Survivors include her sister Carol Brennan of Connecticut as well as nephews Clifford, Gregory, Jeffrey, and Scott Hayes and niece Jean Brennan Fontes. Jean loved family, friends, holidays, parties, New York City, Italy, the Catholic church, the University of Notre Dame, music, broadway shows, Neiman Marcus, Nicholas Sparks’ books, movies, fashion, wine, fun, and hard work. She was a woman of strong faith, a hostess extraordinaire, and a poet who loved to honor her friends and family with her rhyming tributes. We thank John S. Webb and his staff for their compassionate care over the years; the staff at Belmont Village Senior Living Turtle Creek for their steadfast help for the last two years; and Dr. Araghizadeh and the caring staff at William P. Clements Jr. Hospital for making her final week comfortable. We are so grateful to family and friends for the outpouring of love shown to Jean, who was given the gift of being able to say goodbye to all those she loved so much. To a beautiful woman with a spirit so bright, may God open his arms and welcome you into his everlasting light. The family asks that any donations be made to the University of Notre Dame or the Michael J.
