On July 14, 2020, Jay Sheldon Fichtner, loving husband to Rae Ann Fichtner and father to Mark S. Fichtner and Kirk D. Fichtner, passed away at the age of 94. Jay was born in 1926 in New York City, New York. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1951, and proudly served in the United States Navy. He and Rae Ann were married in 1952 in Washington, D.C. They initially moved to Naples, Italy, as part of his Navy service, and then later settled in Dallas, Texas. Jay practiced in Dallas for over 40 years, and specialized in family law. His first admission to the bar was in the District of Columbia in 1952, followed by admission to New York in 1954, Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit in 1955, and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1960. Besides his profession, Jay had many interests, including his private pilot's license and a SCUBA diving instructor certification. Jay is survived by his sons Mark and Kirk, his sisters Lee, Rhoda and Brenda, his grandsons Bryan and Alex, and his great-grandson Phillip. All too briefly he was survived by his wife Rae, who sadly passed away the next day. A graveside service for both will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Cemetery on Monday, July 20, at 9:00 AM.
