Janie M. Ratliff, 88, of Dallas, TX, passed away on April 27, 2017. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on May 4, 2017 at Glendale Presbyterian Church. Pastor Derek Jacobs of The Village United Methodist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm on May 3, 2017 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral at Laurel Land Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Laurel Land. Janie was born in Port Arthur, TX on October 29, 1928. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Port Arthur and continued on to receive a Bachelors degree from Dillard University in New Orleans. She later went on to receive her Masters degree from Prairie View A&M University. Janie was married to Randolph Ratliff on November 24, 1955; they were married twenty-eight wonderful, blessed years. They were the proud parents of two daughters. Janie worked as a school nurse for Dallas Independent School District for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed planting and working in her flower beds, reading, sipping on a hot cup of coffee, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was also actively involved in the ministries at St. Luke Presbyterian church, of which she was a faithful member. She was active on the board of Friends of the Library (Paul L Dunbar branch). Janie is survived by daughters Valerie K. Ratliff and Rita E. Ratliff; brother, Edward Paul Pierre (Isabella); grandchildren Robert C. Hightower, Regina E. Hightower, Raynesha M. Hightower, and Dimitric M. Ratliff; great grandchildren Shamyrii M. Roberts and Dante Hightower; nieces Eddaleine Wilkins, Yolanda Pierre, Lucretia Manners and Elizabeth Ann Ratliff; and nephew Vernon Ratliff, Jr., and many family and friends. Janie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Randolph ‘Randy’ Ratliff; her parents Eddie & Leona Pierre; and brothers, Lawrence Pierre and Wilbert Pierre. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. The family of Janie Ratliff wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, and flowers.
