Born in Seattle, WA on July 22,1930, to parents Odessa Marie & William Carson Comegys, Janice spent a few treasured years of her early childhood near Ponca City, OK at her beloved grandparents’ farm home, while her family rode out the Great Depression. By 1940, they had moved to Oak Cliff, where she graduated from Sunset High School in 1947. Shortly after, Janice met her future husband, Walter Robertson.
While raising a family of five in Dallas, Janice enjoyed a long career with Mobil Pipeline Co, rising through the ranks from a keypunch operator to executive secretary before she retired in 1989. Stories she told from this time in her life were among her happiest memories, especially about cherished work friends and their shenanigans.
In retirement, Janice and Walter ventured to Cedar Creek Lake, where they savored the ‘lake life’ for many years. After Walter’s death in 2018, Janice enjoyed life at CC Young Senior Living Center. She built many treasured friendships, both at Cedar Creek and at CC Young.
Janice loved all things nature: flowers, trees, birds, (even squirrel friends). She was an avid crossword puzzler, and also enjoyed needlework, reading, and keeping up with current events.
Mama, we are so in awe of the strength with which you lived your life and the grace and humility you showed in taking on your final challenge, cancer. Instead of, “Why me?” you always said, “Why not me?” Thank you for the endless love and sacrifice you gave to your family. We will miss you more than you can imagine.
Janice is preceded in death by parents, Odessa and Carson Comegys; beloved uncle, Carl Stevens Pellman; and husband, Walter Louis Robertson.
Survived by children and spouses, Louis Alan Robertson (Marsha), Rebecca Eileen Robertson, Russell Carson Robertson (Lesa), Lisa Beth Robertson-Martin (David), Lauri Gail Robertson-Ortiz (Roger); grandchildren Jeffrey Scott Robertson, Ryan Douglas Robertson, Reed Lawson Robertson, Chad Russell Robertson, Andrew Christopher Martin, Jordan Ray Sherry and Lieana Jiang Sherry; three great-grandchildren, Addison Nicole Smith, Landon Blair Smith, and Brecken Cole Robertson; brother, Jerry Carson Comegys; beloved nieces, and toasting buddy, Carole Presson.
