The lovely Janet Karam Schlichting was born in sunny Los Angeles, California and was the only child of Ann and Dante Bettini. Even at a young age she was a striking beauty. In her early twenties she was a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Studio in southern California. In 1957 she met and married the love of her life, Jay Schlichting. It was a whirlwind romance and within three months of their first date, Jan and Jay eloped in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 22. Afterwards, they moved to Midland, Texas, Jay’s home town. For the next 32 years Jan was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother to her three children: Michelle, JaLynn and Stephen. She was active in her church, a gracious hostess and devoted several years as a foster parent and as a midwife. In 1989, she and Jay moved to Dallas, Texas. The following 26 years of her life she made many wonderful friends, remained a gracious hostess and was passionately devoted to her husband and family.
Jan passed away April 20, 2015. She is survived by her children: daughter Michelle Moseley and her husband Dwayne Moseley of Wolfe City, TX; daughter JaLynn S. West and her husband Lance West, residents of Flower Mound, TX; and son Stephen Schlichting, resident of Richardson, TX; her aunt and many cousins who still reside in California.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Ann and Dante Bettini; her beloved husband, Jay Schlichting; and her grandson, Patrick Moseley. May this woman who brought so much beauty into the world rest in peace as she now joins Jay in a place where there is no sickness or pain, only beauty, love and perfection.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral home in Dallas, TX on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2 p.m.
