James Byron Thieme was born on September 12, 1940 in Dallas, Texas, to James D. & Florence Thieme. “Jim” was a twin! He and his brother, Benjamin, were like two peas in a pod. Jim and his brother grew up in Dallas, and attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Jim graduated class of ’58, then attended East Texas State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a teaching certificate. Jim became a teacher and taught 4th, 5th & 6th grades for over twenty years at Valmond Elementary School. Jim also joined the U.S. Army Reserves as a Master Sergeant and Company & Battalion Clerk for six years. We thank you, Jim, for your service to our country.
Jim, when he wasn’t teaching, enjoyed other pleasures, such as gardening, painting and reading. He liked reading history and mysteries. He was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church on Lovers Lane in Dallas. He would teach at the church as well, as this was truly a passion of his. Jim was loving, sincere, kind, a bit stubborn at times, and he was a private man. He thought he was the “alpha dog”, but we really know it was his fur-baby, Sophie.
On Tuesday, July 26, 2016, Jim Thieme was called home to meet his maker. He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, his beloved Bassett Hound, Sophie, and his other four-legged friend, Sugar.
His life will continue to be remembered and celebrated by his “older twin”, Ben Thieme; his aunt, Claudia P. O’Connor; several cousins and close friends, Bob and Lorrie.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Zion Lutheran Church or your local animal shelter, as Jim loved dogs.
