Jim was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1937. One year later, he and his family moved to California's Pacific Coast. Jim attended Compton High school and Compton Junior College on a Basketball scholarship. He married the love of his life, Nancy Dee O'Neal, in 1958 and they had 2 daughters, Stacy Jade and Lisa Lee.
Jim began a long career with Frito-Lay in 1966. He started in the Western Zone division in Los Angeles. After several years he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations in Dallas. After Frito-Lay's acquisition by the Pepsi-Cola company (PepsiCo), Jim was named President of the European Group PepsiCo Foods International (PFI). He was based in London for several years. After this assignment, Jim was asked to return to his Frito-Lay roots by the President of PepsiCo and was named President and CEO of Frito-Lay Restaurant International. Prior to his retirement in 2000, he was named President of Frito-Lay International closing out a distinguished 35 year career. Jim was also a world class coin collector. Jim will long be remembered as one of the great connoisseurs of US Numismatics and as a friend to all dealers and collectors who knew him. Jim was known as a king of Trivial Pursuit to a myriad of friends, family and fellow competitors.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Robinson; his stepfather, Ross Robinson; his wife, Nancy Dee O'Neal; his daughter, Lisa Lee O'Neal; and his sister, Carolyn Lawrence. Jim is survived by his daughter, Stacy O'Neal, and his sister, Toni Tompkins. Jim is also survived by, 2 nieces, 4 nephews, 6 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces, 1 great-nephew and 3 great-great-nieces.
Jim's generous spirit and the love of his family and a lifetime of mentorship to friends and colleagues, will be missed tremendously. He made the world a better place.
