James McDonald Miller passed away on July 24, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born on August 2, 1926, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Lawrence Miller and Ruth Young Miller. He served in World War II as a U.S. Merchant Marine. Jim was a resident of Galveston, Texas, where he met and married his wife, Norma Jean "Corky" Sexton. At the time of her death in 2014, they had been married for 65 years.
In 1963 he moved his family to Memphis, Tennessee, to become a distributor for Interstate Battery Systems along with his father and brothers. Later in his life he joined the staff at Central Christian Church and attended Crichton Christian College to pursue a degree in pastoral studies. Jim was an independent spirit with a big heart and will be greatly missed. He loved playing golf, fishing, music, and just being outside.
Jim is survived by daughter, Ruth Ann Devlin and husband, Bill; sons, Lawrence Miller and wife, Kathryn, and Glenn Miller and wife, Andrea; grandchildren, Jake Miller and wife, Erin, Aaron Miller, Anna Miller, Matt Miller and wife, Laura, Kimmie Miller, Brian Devlin and wife, Amy, Chris Devlin and wife, Maggie, and Scott Devlin and wife, Ashley; great grandchildren, Matthew Devlin, Lily Devlin, Cameron Devlin, Piper Devlin, McLane Miller and Tinsley Miller; sister, Janet Miller Harger; brothers, Norm Miller and wife, Anne, and Tom Miller and wife, Scottie; nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Saturday, August 27, at 12:00 p.m. at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas, 75252. Burial will be in Memphis Tennessee, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The American Stroke Foundation.
