Jim is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, of 47 years; daughter, Leslie (McGhee) Cravens and son-in-law, Kris Cravens of Wylie, Texas; son, Brian McGhee and daughter-in-law, Jenny (Orndorff) McGhee of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Audrey Elizabeth Cravens (10), Mason Edward McGhee (9), Parker Ann Cravens (5), Preston Warner McGhee (5), and Owen Davis McGhee (3); siblings, John McGhee, Robert McGhee, and Darlene (McGhee) Miller; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by parents, John and Ruth McGhee and sisters, Rosamond (McGhee) Mitchell and Deborah McGhee.
So many titles held throughout his life: Son, Brother, Athlete, Husband, Veteran, Father, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Coach, Mentor, self-titled Wrestling Historian, and Papa/Papa J. Each one he considered an honor and privilege to hold. Throughout life, spending time with his wife and kids was top on his list. His kids were not only his daughter and son, but every young person who walked into his classroom or whom he coached in several sports. His legacy lives on in all of them. Jim will also be remembered by his strong faith, unparalleled humor, love of music, baseball, golf, reading, love for his dogs, and most of all for his grandchildren who adored him so much.
A memorial service is planned to honor and celebrate his life at 10:00am on Monday, August 30, 2021 at
