Jim proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific arena as a member of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in accounting and in a minor in geography, on a full athletic scholarship in both basketball and golf. He was employed by Union Oil for a few years before joining the Masonite Corporation. He held several positions, including management, over his 30-plus year career with Masonite, and retired in 1989.
An avid golfer, Jim won several tournaments and championships as a member of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association and Brookhaven Country Club. He continued to shoot par and sub-par scores into his late 80s. Jim also enjoyed fishing, whether it was bass in the North Texas area or trout, salmon, and steelhead in the Pacific Northwest. He also had a fondness for the family cocker spaniels.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margery; his son Jim; and his daughters, Diane, Sally, and Julie.
