Born in Cooper, Texas, September 9, 1931, the son of James Montier Leftwich and Amy Carrell Leftwich, he grew up in Dallas, graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and attended SMU. In 1952 he married June Storey.
Mac entered Navy flight training in 1951, and by 1952 was flying patrol aircraft and blimps. In his career as an aviator he flew P2V Neptunes out of Newfoundland; served as ship's navigator of USS Wasp during the Cuban Missile Crisis; and was academic director of flight training in Pensacola.
After retiring from the Navy in 1971, Mac and his family returned to Dallas, where he became a real estate broker. Over the next forty years, he helped many families find good places to live and made many friends.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eugenia; and his brother, Dalton. He will be remembered with love by his wife, June; sister, Amy Lee; brother, Sam; children Wade, Frankie, Genie, and Robbie; grandchildren Max, Molly, Leta, Wade, and Alexandra; and his large extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Wednesday, July 8, at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas, 4015 Normandy Avenue.
