Sr. He attended G.W. Bradford School, K-12 grades. As a student he was active in sports. James joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rusk at an early age. His mother was very active in the church.
Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the states and abroad in Germany. While active in service James married Betty Jean Alexander and to this union a son was born. They later divorced. After an honorable discharge, James came to Dallas where he married Bobbie Jean Thompson Atkins. Bobbie was the mother to two sons and to this marriage one son was born. She preceded him in death. Shortly after arriving in Dallas, James united with Bonnie View Christian Church along with his wife, Bobbie.
James loved his family with a passion, especially the babies, and they loved him as well. he enjoyed fishing and watching sports on television in his big brown leather recliner. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand where he was an experienced machine operator and fork lift driver. He received many awards for safety in operations. He also worked for Laclede Steel, Gardner-Denver, and All-Right Parking Lots.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Mae Liza Vanzandt Young, step-father, George Young, father, Morris Lacy, Sr., one brother and one sister. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Jurline Tarver Lacy, sons; Harold James Lacy (Charlene), Kelvin Keith Lacy (Bonnie), a sister, Essie Mae Johnson, Niece, Vernita Jo Johnson, nephew, Gary Johnson, uncle, Johnny Thompson, aunt, Imogene Thompson, six granddaughters, three grandsons, one special step-daughter-in-law, Darlene Sanders, several step children, many step grandchildren and step- great grandchildren, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Special mention goes to Vernetta Jo Gonzales, Elder James Morgan, Dennis Prather, Earl Woods and Carl Hopkins.
Services for Mr. Lacy will be held at Bonnie View Christian Church in Dallas at 11:00 am on Saturday, August, 17, 2013. A wake will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home on Friday, August, 16, 2013 with viewing from 6-7pm followed by a service from 7-8 pm.
