James W. Kerr (Jim) was born on June 13, 1946 in Dallas, Texas. The son of Robert and Elizabeth Kerr, he grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School in 1964.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1965 and served until 1968. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant after 20 months service in Vietnam. He served with MASS-2 and MAG-39 throughout I corps.
He joined SSBA (which later acquired MBNA) in 1976 and worked there until his retirement in 2005. Since his retirement he and Janet (his wife of 17 years) have traveled extensively while documenting their extensive family trees.
In addition to Janet, he is survived by a sister Martha Early, son Brian Gunter, and numerous grandchildren.
The service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:30 at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home with the visitation the night before from 6-8.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Stewpot Shelter in Dallas or a similar homeless shelter of the donor’s choice.
