He was the son of Joseph Frawley and Margaret (Peggy) McCarthy Frawley. He attended St. Anthony’s Elementary School in East White Plains, graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1974. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in 1978 and started his military career being commissioned as a 2nd LT in the United States Marine Corps in June 1978. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in January 1980.
Jim (call sign “Mongo”) accumulated over 5,000 hours in military aircraft including more than 100 carrier landings and 32 combat missions. In 2003, Jim transferred from active duty to the reserve component. Col. Frawley’s personal decorations include many Air Medals and Navy Commendations with Combat Distinguishing Devices as well as a recipient of the Legion of Merit Award.
He joined American Airlines as a pilot and flew with them until his retirement in December 2021. In Jim’s spare time, he devoted himself as a police officer in the City of Fort Worth, Texas and to various Federal and Municipal law enforcement agencies. He is also a member of the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Kirk of Bedford, Texas, his father, Joseph Frawley of Ridge, New York, his sisters- Colleen (James) Noonan of White Plains, NY, Sheila (Scott) Beaumont of Hampton Bays, NY and Weathersfield, VT & Patricia (Michael) Wagner of Perkinsville, VT and loving nieces, nephews, a grandniece and grandnephews.
He is predeceased by his mother Margaret (Peggy) Frawley.
Jim, Mongo or Mr. Wonderful will be dearly missed by his family and numerous friends. He will be fondly remembered by all that had an opportunity to meet him.
