Reverend James David Campbell Jr. was born August 16, 1936, in Fairfield Texas, to the late Reverend James Campbell Sr. and the late Mozelle Thompson. He departed this life on Saturday, February 18, 2023, and was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Clemon, Leonell Mullens, Dora Randle, Elector Gaston, Jack Sampson, Calvin Washington and Morris J Washington.
His childhood was spent in Fairfield, Texas until he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While proudly serving his country, he gained a vast knowledge of military aircraft. His Air Force career afforded him the opportunity to visit several countries around the world. Airman James D. Campbell, Jr. received an honorable discharge from the military upon completion of his enlistment.
Shortly after his discharge from the Air Force, he relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended The University of Tulsa and the Spartan School of Aeronautics. He graduated, specializing as an aircraft electrician and received his certification to work on DC-9/Super 80 aircraft. He was a revered airplane mechanic, and his hard-working mentality and perseverance allowed him to break racial barriers and become the first African-American Crew Chief for American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Rev. Campbell was a dedicated and faithful member of Christ Temple CME Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With his knowledge of the bible, he immediately became a teacher for the men’s Sunday school class and later becoming the Sunday school superintendent. His knowledge of God’s word continued to grow which resulted in becoming an ordained minister. After 44 years at American Airlines, he decided to retire and place more focus on becoming a Pastor. He served as the Senior Pastor of Cleaves Memorial CME Church in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, as well as Hills Chapel CME Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. After stepping down as senior pastor of his church, he returned to Christ Temple as an associate pastor. Rev. Campbell eventually relocated to Texas to be amongst family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories, five children: Antoinette Campbell of Richardson, Texas, Cheryl Campbell of Dallas, Texas, Glenn Campbell of Dallas, Texas, David Campbell (Arlene) of Waxahachie, Texas and Shannon Booty of Sachse, Texas. He is also survived by a sister, Millie Titus of Silver Springs, Maryland, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
