James Mathew Bennett was born in Buffalo, New York on November 18, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Elmer and Elizabeth Mae Bennett, his sister Grace, his loving wife of 45 years, Carolyn Mae, and their son, Joseph Mark. Jim loved God, his wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandson, nieces and nephews. He was passionate about his work and spent many years serving others at Dade County Parks and Recreation, Dallas Parks and Recreation, and Elliott’s Hardware. He enjoyed playing golf, coaching baseball, drawing, working with his hands, fishing with his family, and all things outdoors.
Survivors include his son Mathew Bennett and family, Deborah, Eric and Paige, Sarah and Zack and their son. John Bennett and family, Karen, Rachel and Colin, Nathan, and Zachary. Carol Porter and family, Chris, Claire, and Nicholas. Theresa Bates and family, Mitch, Jacob and Courtney, Sam, and Hannah. Paul Bennett. Ed Bennett and family, Holly, Kirsten, and Lynley. Libby Bennett and partner, Donald Griswold.
Extended family includes the Gray, Teter, O’Donnell, Healy, Morrissey, Dieter and Lynn Families along with neighbors, Terry Wade and Joli Gargiulo.
Jim believed in leaving this world better than he found it. In his work, he strived to create more parks and outdoor spaces in his community. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in his honor, or making a donation to the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation or St. Patrick’s Catholic School.
