James Joseph Bacon was born July 13, 1938, in Ft. Worth, TX, to Kenneth and Loretta (Latham) Bacon Colvin.
He grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. After his father returned from WWII in 1945, the family moved to Florida for 3 years. They returned to Texas in 1948. Joseph attended grade school and high school in Corpus Christi. Upon graduation from Ray High School, he attended beauty school in Lake Jackson, TX. After getting his hairdresser license, he worked in Lake Jackson and San Antonio. Finally arriving in Dallas in the 60’s, he worked for Neiman Marcus and then as an independent hairstylist. He retired in 2011.
Joseph was an artist and a musician who loved to work with his hands, play guitar and sing. He had many stories about the early years in South Texas playing music in the blues clubs along the Gulf Coast where he met many music legends like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Once he ran into Patsy Cline playing shuffleboard in a Corpus bar, only to realize days later who she was.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Loretta, and a son, Darrow Vedder.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Toni Joslin Bacon, daughter, Robin Jean Matthews of Prescott, AZ; son, Matthew William Bacon (Candice) of Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughter, Eleanor Gray Bacon (Oklahoma City, OK); sister, Linda Bacon Cartwright (Dallas, TX); nieces Amy Myers Williams (Todd), Carrie Lynn Myers Yanney (Robert) and grandnephews Jack Williams and Joe Williams (all of Dallas).

A memorial service for James will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 6550 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75228.
