James Averitte was born to Elzie and Nova Averitte on December 4, 1936. He breathed his last earthly breath on April 7, 2024 and woke up on Heaven’s shore. Alzheimer’s finally has no more hold on his life. He is whole and restored!!
James was in ROTC and in the Army National Guard, where he won many sharp shooting competitions. He loved all sports but his top three had to be softball, bowling and golf. In his younger days when he played fast pitch softball, legend has it he could pitch so fast, that one time he broke a catcher’s nose through his mask. He was a great bowler bowling multiple 300 games. After retirement golf became his game of choice.
The only thing he loved more than sports and history documentaries was his wife. He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, June Storrs, on May 24, 1956; after they’d dated for 5 years. James and June were married for 63 years. They met at home plate when he was coaching her softball team, and never once did they miss a goodnight kiss.
He was proceeded in death by his wife June, parents Elzie and Nova Averitte, brothers Eddie and Glenn Averitte. He is survived by his daughter Cathy and her husband Mark Lawson. His son Jimmy and his wife Josie Averitte. Six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
