As a young girl, she always loved the Lord and was a member of True Zion Baptist Church. Ida, her oldest sister, Vivian, her cousin, Wanda, and Brother Lenny from the church, formed a youth singing group called The Relations.
In December 1976, she gave birth to her only child, De’Eric Sr. Everyone knew she loved her son and set out to be the best mother and supporter she could.
Ida loved purple, always representing the Class of 1977 Lincoln Tigers. She loved her grandkids, family, and just about anyone she came in contact with. She shared a special relationship with her youngest nephew, Willie Sr., whom she raised. Nicknamed Rita, Ms Ida, Momma Ida, she was loved by all.
She was a dedicated civil servant (housekeeping and laundry) to South Dallas Nursing Home (Modern Senior Living, Llc) for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and frequently fellowshipped with family members.
Preceding her in death is her mother, Willie Mae Cooley Martin, and her oldest brother, James Larry Martin. She leaves in her memory her father, James Walter Martin, her son, De’Eric (Angellee) Martin Sr., her 3 grandchildren, Cer DaMeon, Cydnie McGilbra, De’Eric Martin Jr., her 2 sisters, Vivian Wilson and Anelda Martin, her youngest brother, Walter (Constance) Martin, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A celebration of life for Ida will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Oakgrove M. B. Church, 4102 Humphrey Dr, Dallas, TX 75216.
