Hortense was raised in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Eastfield College.
She married Raymond Martinez Jr. in 1958 and the couple had three children. She was a Deaf Interpreter at DISD where she worked for more than 20 years.
In her spare time Hortense enjoyed being with family, cooking, playing games, dancing, watching Hallmark Christmas movies, and watching Christian programs.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Swartz and Julia Velez; husband, Raymond Martinez Jr., sons, Richard Martinez and David Martinez.
She is survived by her son, Gilbert A. Martinez and wife Nicole Martinez; grandchildren, Alexis Borja, Attikus Martinez, Julia Martinez and Taylor White.
She loved to smile and was a joy to be around.
A visitation for Hortense will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home and Crematory, 3050 N STEMMONS FWY, DALLAS, TX 75247. Following the visitation will be an interment from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220.
Hortense will be laid to rest in Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220-3338; SECTION L; Lot: 19X, Grave: 2.
