Helen was born in San Antonio, Texas, on November 2, 1926, and married E.C. “Johnny” Johnson on June 2, 1946.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Johnny and her five brothers, Sonny, Charlie, Bobby, David and Tom and her three sisters, Jane, Telee and Singabo.
Helen’s pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her six children: David (Kerrie) Johnson, Tim (Janet) Johnson, Peggy Redding, John (Charlotte) Johnson, Tom “Dooley” (Lana) Johnson and Robert (Melissa) Johnson. She had six grandchildren: Jennifer LaFond, Cindy (Kirk) Jordan, David (Kristen) Redding, John Johnson, Clay Johnson and Adam Johnson. She also had six great-grandchildren: Arabella and Drake LaFond, Olivia, Eli, Amos and Piper Louise Jordan and Lucy Redding.
Helen loved to play bridge, poker, Scrabble, Skip-Bo and bunco, but her all-time favorite was bingo and she played as recently as the Friday before her death. She loved winning!
In addition, Helen was a great cook and was the hostess with the mostest for many parties and holiday gatherings such as her famous Christmas “soup” party. Any time she could get family or friends together it was a party!
Visitation will be held a 8:00 a.m. on August 14, 2024, followed by the service at 9:00 a.m. at Calvary Hill Chapel with Fr. Stephen Bierschenk officiating. Committal will follow at Calvary Hill after the service. A reception will also be held at Calvary Hill after the committal.
Helen’s last seven months of her life were spent at Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care in Waxahachie, Texas. She made some new sweet friends, Patricia and Marietta, and played bingo as much as she could. We cannot begin to express how much we appreciate the love and attention the caregivers and staff at Buffalo Creek gave to our mother. A special place and very special people.
In addition, we would like to thank Bespoke Hospice for all the care and affection they bestowed on Helen throughout her stay at Buffalo Creek. Again, a special calling with special people.
