She was born to Artie and James Abercrombie on June 27, 1933. She was very active in high school, playing basketball and cheerleading. After graduating from high school, she married Leonard Dempsey Yoder and they had five children together, Linda, David, Debby, Susan, married to Marty Peters and Steve.
Hazel worked as a secretary and finished her career as a real estate agent. She married Charles Otto Merz in 1984 and was married to her love for 36 years until his passing in November 2020. Together they traveled the world and went on many cruises. They loved their children Bill and wife Deborah and grandson Gregory, daughter Darlene and husband Pete Barr and grandson Christopher and wife Sara Hargis, and great grandchildren Jonathon, Rachel, Joseph, Samuel and Matthew. They adored their other grandchildren, Cliff, Heather, married to Billy Lay and daughter Katelyn, Jessica, married to Mat Skerritt, Brooke, married to Cameron Beck, Anna, Lindsey, married to Tyler Goble and Daniel, and her great granddaughter Cora. Hazel adored so many more not mentioned here but they know who they are because they were very special to her.
Hazel loved shopping, dancing, getting her hair done and entertaining. She began following Jesus after she turned 50 and loved telling anyone who would listen about how good God is. Hazel kept us all laughing until the very end with her amazing joy. We rejoice knowing she is in the arms of Jesus and reuniting with our loved ones.
