Harry Green Jr. was born on November 4,1918, to Octavia and Harry Green Sr.; he is a 1939 graduate of Peabody High School, and he has served the nation with distinction in the United States Army in World War II; and after graduating from barber college and working for a short time as a barber, Mr. Green began a 26 year career with the United States Department of Veteran Affairs, working in a hospital as a surgical scrub technician; after his retirement, he opened his own successful self-service laundry business, which he ran for another two decades. He married the late Birdie Mae Green in 1942, and the couple enjoyed 56 years of marriage together. They adopted and raised a daughter, Ella Mae, and he married his second his wife, the late Cecil Luther, in 1998; Ella Mae later died in 2013. Mr. Green's two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren continue to be a source of much pride and joy for him.
He is an avid bowling and golf fan and bowled for many years in the Saint John Bowling League; he was also a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship.
A beloved and respected member of his community, Mr. Green is noted for his warmth, his wit, and his wise counsel. He inspired those around him with his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest ; and will now be left with charitable memories for those that knew to share.
Mr. Green will be missed dearly by all that knew along with a host of other relatives and friends.
