Harold E. Gilliatt, 87, of Dallas passed away April 18, 2016. There will be a memorial service celebrating his life on Friday, April 29 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Richardson.
Harold grew up on a farm near Garrison, Iowa, and after high school at Garrison, graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa in 1949. After a stint in the USAF after World War II (two years were spent in Germany), he went to work for Collins Radio, later Rockwell International. After 34 years, he retired as Assistant Treasurer of Outreach Operations in 1999.
In retirement, he enjoyed travel with tours to a number of places worldwide including Germany, Russia, other parts of Europe, the Greek Isles, and Australia. He also loved traveling with his grandchildren and took them on several summertime trips to other parts of the country. He was an avid golfer and was a Marshall part-time at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson. Harold and his wife Jane lived in Richardson from 1959 until 2007, when they moved to HIghland Springs Retirement Community.
Harold was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Jane Gilliatt. He is survived by three daughters, Susan and husband Ed Tober, Cathy and husband Dr. David Denson, and Debbie Gilliatt. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Darby Tober and husband Stephen Heacock, Paul Tober, Dr. Nick Denson and wife Pam, Dr. Nathaniel Denson and wife Brooke, and Erin Gilliatt, and by a sister, Kay and husband Craig Tjaden. He leaves his family and friends with special memories of his love for them and how he touched their lives.
