Gwen Arthur Tolman

Gwen and her twin brother Glen were born on August 24, 1930 in Paul, Idaho to Glen Edward Arthur Sr. and Mildred Olsen Arthur. Gwen grew up on a farm in Burley, Idaho where she raised her own milk cows to earn money.

On November 20, 1948 she married Emerson Odell Tolman. They moved from Idaho to Dallas, Texas along with most of Odell‘s family. They went back and forth between Idaho and Dallas a few times, with a short stint in Grand Forks, North Dakota, before they made their permanent home in Dallas. They have 5 children: Lawrence Tolman who was killed in a car accident when he was 9 years old, Kay Snow who passed away in 2019, Mildred Upchurch, Jay Tolman and Lorale Holland. Odell passed away in 1987 and Gwen remained a widow for 36 years.

They raised their family in Dallas, Texas in their home on Everglade Road. That home was a gathering place for 50 years for their great posterity until Gwen sold it in 2021. Many weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, Christmas Eve dinners, birthday parties and other happy gatherings were held there throughout the years. Gwen was at the center of it all.

Gwen’s posterity includes her 5 children, 19 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren with the 58th coming this June, and 3 great great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75228. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8201 Garner Rd., Rowlett, Texas 75088. Burial will immediately follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
