Guy Weldon Fowler (Pap) was born on December 12, 1932, in Kaufman, Texas, and passed away peacefully at his home in Garland at the age of 89, on January 11, 2022, with his family and friends close by his side.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Hughie and Maggie Fowler, and his wife of 47 years, Merle Poteet Fowler.
Guy is survived by his daughter and her husband, Ronna Lynn and Wayne Keller of Plano, TX; his grandson, Nicholas Ryan Erickson of Charleston, South Carolina; many great nieces and nephews; his loving puppy, Lucy, and many friends.
Guy grew up in Kaufman, Texas, as brother to Mary, Betty, Donald, Charles and Melvin and attended Mesquite High School before he was drafted into service for the Korean War. He proudly served his country in the early 50’s in the US Navy.
Guy retired from W.L. Gordon Food Brokerage, which gave him time to do what he loved. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his ‘podnahs’ on the greens whenever he could. He was proud of his numerous ‘hole in ones’ and was always challenged to achieve the perfect score. He loved teaching his grandson not only to love the game, but to play it well.
Guy was loved by many people and never met a stranger. Almost everywhere he went, there were people who knew him and would come over to say hello.
Guy’s life will be celebrated at a visitation service at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, Friday, January 14, 2022, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. The family will observe a private graveside service on Saturday morning, which will be officiated by Pastor Terry Moore, of Sojourn Church.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to a charity Guy supported regularly - Veterans of Foreign Wars www.heros.vfw.org. For more information, please contact Sparkman/Hillcrest at 214-363-5401.
The family would like to thank VITAS Healthcare for their heartfelt care, as well as many friends who were instrumental in the comfort and quality of his life during his last few weeks on earth, where he was able to remain in his home because of their gracious care.
Pap, “You did good”. We love you and are thankful for you. Hit ‘em long and straight!
