Grace Walker Delatour was born to Rev. JH Walker Sr and Blanche Jinkerson Walker in Cleveland TN on August 13th 1934. She passed away on April 6th 2025. Grace lived a full life dedicated to her family and her savior Jesus Christ. She was a humble servant, strong leader, loving friend and joy filled presence. Everything Grace did she did with love and faith for the glory of God. She will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in her heavenly homecoming.
Grace graduated from Bradley High School in 1952 and married Thomas Russell Delatour in June of the same year. Grace attended Lee College and graduated from the Peabody School of Vanderbilt University. She earned her MS from SMU. Grace and Russ had three sons Thomas Jr, John, and William.
After college, Grace and Russ relocated to Dallas where they dedicated their lives to raising their sons and serving their community. Grace began her 25 years in education at Kimbell Junior High School. Two years later, she moved to Thomas Jefferson High School where she taught Home Economics and established the first HECE student after school work program.
Grace lived a life of service in every way. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Downtown Rotary Club and served as its president. She was also an active and dedicated member of the Dallas Retired Teachers Association. Most of Grace’s volunteer life, however was centered on her church home, Highland Park United Methodist Church. She was an active member of Circle 20, and she served multiple terms on the church board. Grace and Russ found fellowship in the newly formed Couples Round Table Sunday school class. Grace was a founding and faithful member of the Prayer Tower Ministry. The
ministry recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Her prayer life enriched all those that knew her.
Grace cherished her family spending summer vacations in Tennessee with her boys, her brothers Herbert and Sammy and their wives and her beloved nieces, Dianne, Crystal, Susan and Teri. It was everyone’s favorite time of the year. Grace and Russ traveled to China annually for 7 years to visit their son Tom and his wife Grace. She had a deep appreciation of nature and, in later years, spent her summers in the mountains near Creede, CO.
Grace was predeceased by her parents, her son Tom, and her grandsons David and Walker. She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years Russ, sons John (Ann) and Bill (Lisa), daughter in law Grace Fan Delatour, grandchildren Mary Grace Mewett (Jeff), William (Brittany), Bobby, Callie, and Sarah Portnoy great grandchildren Rylan Mewett and Elise Mewett.
Services will be held at 10:00 on Tuesday, April 15th in the sanctuary at Highland Park United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CC Young Auxiliary est.1925. CCYoung.Org.
