After graduating high school, Gladys married Tom Cherry on November 4, 1939. He preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Cherry worked in sales for Sears for many years. Some of her favorite hobbies inlcude: reading, playing bridge, fishing, and going to church. Her greatest enjoyment was her time with family, time with friends, and helping others.
Gladys is survived by sons, Tom Cherry, Jr. of Dallas, Paul Cherry and his wife Maggie, of Garland; grandchildren Philip Cherry, Eva Cherry, and Eva's mother Jean Cherry; a brother Charles Hopkins and his wife Kathleen of New Boston; and a sister-in-law Hortense Hopkins of New Boston. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cherry is also preceded in death by her brothers Dillard Hopkins and Herman Hopkins as well as sisters, Verna Runnels, Dorothy Hatcher, and Juanita Parmer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Lakewood United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gayle Landis officiating. Burial will take place afterwards in the Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas with Rick Parmer, Kelly Hopkins, Glen Hatcher, Warren Sibley, Buz Davis, and John Stewart serving as pallbearers.
