Our loving family announces the passing of their devoted mother and grandmother, Geraldine Elizabeth McDonald, on October 1, 2014. She left us with her beloved daughters, Kim and Lisa, by her side. The family is very grateful to her for her lifetime of devoted love, strong Christian faith and living her life in an exemplary manner.
Gerry was born on December 3, 1929 in Waco, Texas to Susie Elizabeth Burkhart Threadgill and Charles Franklin Threadgill. She grew up in Waco, Texas and graduated from Waco High School in 1948. Following graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald McDonald and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage until his passing in 2011.
They were blessed with two wonderful and devoted daughters, Kim and Lisa. Following the birth of their daughters and early married years in Waco, the family moved to Dallas where Donald spent many years in the structural steel business as owner/partner of Lohrengel & McDonald Engineering Co.
Gerry was very much the traditional mother, whose focus was always on the well being of her husband, children and grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “Mimi” by her grandchildren. She treasured her marriage with Donald and years with the children while they were growing up. She always found her greatest joy in being with her family. She enjoyed going with her family to church, sewing dresses for her granddaughters, playing bridge, attending her grandchildren’s events, being at the lake house, family dinners whether at home or restaurants and attending numerous family celebrations. She always looked forward to the annual Threadgill Reunions in Waco where she was reunited with her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Shaddock and her husband, Bill; daughter Lisa Kelley and her husband, Rick; grandchildren, William and his wife, Kaitlin, Andrew and Caroline Shaddock, Kevin and Jeremy Haney and Jennifer Spencer and her husband, John, along with three great-grandchildren, Freya, Lilian and Nikolai Spencer. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church, 5801 Plano Parkway, Plano, Texas on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at 2:00pm.
