Born December 23, 1922 in Bridgeport, Texas to Clarence and Margaret Smith and died January 25, 2013 in Dallas at age 90. Gerald was retired from Chilton Corporation. He served as president of Credit Management Association in 1980 and was named Credit Executive of the Year in 1981 and 1982. Gerald was a Master Mason, A. C. Garrett Lodge, a member of Dallas Elks Lodge 71, Hella Shrine in Garland and VFW Post 6796. He served in the 442’nd Night Fighter Squadron, U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul and sister, Lavelle. Survived by wife of 65 years, Dorothy Jean; son Mark and wife, Kathleen; grandson Christopher and wife, Sara; grandson Craig; great-grandsons Jackson, Grayson and Tyson; and nephews Michael Parr and Don Smith. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral service 10AM Friday, February 1, 2013 in the Chapel of Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 1:15PM at the DFW National Cemetery.
