Now, the thing about Jerry is when he gets into something it usually ends up a forever thing. His family moved to Dallas when he was about 3, and across the alley he met his lifelong friend, Walt. At around 12 he got his first motorcycle and rode it from Canton to Dallas. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School he got a job as an auto mechanic. Then he met Myra.
Not long after that, like many his age, he got his notice. Jerry served in combat in Vietnam, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the M60 Expert and M14 marksman Badges. He was even a tunnel rat for a little while. After two years he left the Army because he had more important things to do. On July 20, 1970, Jerry and Myra got married.
Jerry and Myra love to travel, they never missed an opportunity while he was working and after a long career at Southwest Airlines even more so. They’ve shared trips to Ireland, and Scotland, but if the pictures Jerry was always taking are any indication Lake Louise, in Alberta is probably their favorite.
The motorcycle at 12? Myra and Jerry were riding on their Goldwings until just a few years ago. They are also members of the Lone Star Corvette Club and have driven all around the country in his. And you can’t forget Jerry’s pride and joy, his fully restored ‘76 Bronco. Remember Walt? Still his best friend. Myra? You just have to see Jerry look at her to see the love and adoration in his eyes. Through the tragic loss of their son, Christopher on July 15,1995 and all of life’s challenges and joys they have been one another’s love and support.
That love has extended to all their family and friends. All the in-laws and out-laws knew they were always welcome in their home. The many nieces and nephews felt and shared his love. Jerry and Myra helped several other young people who loved and looked up to him.
At home and in the company of his family, Jerry died peacefully on June 10, 2023.
Our hearts all join Myra in missing his presence, his smile, and his laugh, We still share his love.
