Georgia Castillo Rosales was born on May 24, 1928 to Aurelio and Juanita Castillo in Scurry, Texas. At an early age the family moved to a small farming community of Norwegian immigrants in Oslo, Minnesota located on the banks of the Red River bordering Canada. There they raised sugar beets and lived off the land.
Georgia shared many stories of life on the farm... the long, snowy winters, her fathers love of fishing, sadly losing her 18 year old brother Aurelio to tuberculosis and brother Jesse to an accident, learning to read and write Spanish by the light of a kerosene lamp from a Bible her father bought, attending a small one room school house and learning to speak Norwegian. Later she would share her command of the Norwegian language in verse and song with her children and grandchildren.
In the mid-1940's, the family moved back to Texas, for the warmer weather and better job opportunities. Settling into a home on Harwood Street in Dallas, Georgia attended Cumberland School and then she went to work for a time as a seamstress. At the tender age of 26, rheumatoid arthritis began to slowly and painfully invade her body. Never complaining, the disease eventually rendered her unable to walk again. Crippling her body, the disease had no effect on her strong will and unwavering faith in God.
She purchased her home, raised and educated her five children, provided daycare for her grandchildren as well as for her numerous "adopted" children, always with tender love and devotion.
Georgia passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Saturday September 14, 2019 with her brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, sons, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren, lifelong friends and caregiver by her side.
Georgia entered the Kingdom of Heaven, welcomed by her Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. Georgia is now reunited in Heaven with her son Ramon (Ray), her daughter Teresa, her grandson Javier, her parents Juanita and Aurelio, her sisters Anselma and Elizabeth and her brothers, Jesus, Aurelio and Jesse. She is now hopping, skipping, jumping and running on a flower-covered meadow, forever free from the shackels of her earthly body.
Georgia is survived by her son Jay, daughter Isabel, and son Paul, grandchildren; Celeste, John Michael, Stefan, Ramon, Martin, Joseph, Nicholas, Hannah , Samuel, great grandchildren; Mia, Madalyn, Emma and Emiliana, her brothers; Paul and Louis and sister Casimera.
