A native Texan, Georgia was born on July 31, 1926 to Dr. George A. and Marie Schenewerk.
Georgia was the youngest of three having twin sisters Betty Kurilecz and Pat Fisk both who preceded her in death.
Georgia was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, where she attended Ursuline Academy of Dallas. During WWII, her father, a Lt. Colonel in the Army Air Force, was stationed in Boca Raton, Florida, where Georgia attended high school her senior year. After her high school graduation, Georgia attended the Art Institute in New York City shortly and then returned to Dallas to attend SMU- Southern Methodist University and study Interior Design. After graduation, she began her career in interior design with Neiman Marcus. While attending SMU, she met Jim (Jimmy) Pitts, and they were married October 25, 1952. Jimmy and Georgia had a life full of adventure working first in the oil industry in Midland, Texas, Houston, Texas, and Maracaibo, Venezuela. Returning to Texas, they left the oil industry for the chemical industry and eventually moved their family to St. Louis Missouri.
They had 4 children: Jan, Fred, Dee Dee, and Angie. Georgia was a long-term substitute teacher for the Parkway School district in St. Louis. She played bridge with her friends - not so much because of the game, but because she loved to be with others and have fun! Georgia and Jimmy loved antiques and spent much of their time combing the countryside of Missouri and Illinois finding pieces that Jimmy restored and Georgia used to decorate their homes. In their later years they loved to travel and had memorable trips to Canada, France, and England.
After retiring, Jimmy and Georgia returned to their beloved state of Texas in 1994, moving close to their sisters Shirley Baccus and Betty Kurilecz as well as their cousins, nieces, and nephews. They enjoyed being back in Texas close to family and long-term friends who they spent time with sharing meals and reminiscing.
Jimmy passed away May 28, 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer. In April 2002, Georgia relocated to Richmond, Texas, to be close to her daughter and son in-law Angie and Jerry Borges and grandchildren Katie and Nick. While living in Richmond, Georgia volunteered at the Oakbend Medical Hospital weekly, was involved with the "Golden Oldies" at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and never missed a sporting event or dance routine at Foster High School. Neighbors adored her and loved seeing her out and about! Georgia loved nothing more than spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow from babies to young adults! She vacationed often from Dubai to Florida to Tennessee to Missouri travelling with her children and grandchildren and making memories she would treasure for a lifetime. She was blessed with wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews who stayed in touch with her over the years and visited often! Georgia decided in September 2015 to make one more move to Knoxville, Tennessee, to be with her daughter and son-in-law Dee Dee and Bob Harmony. She was thrilled to have been able to be a part of her grandchildren's weddings and to share many happy times with them all - they truly made her the happiest!
Georgia is survived by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always remember her as "Grammy". Her children: Daughter & son in-law Jan & Mike Thompson of St. Charles, MO; Son & daughter in-law Fred & LaNan Pitts of Olathe, KS; Daughter & son in-law Dee Dee & Bob Harmony of Knoxville, TN; and Daughter & son in-law Angie & Jerry Borges of Wimberley, TX; Her loving grandchildren: Chris & Teryn Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Andi & Josh Garrett, Marisa & Josh Swenson, Morgan Pitts, Derick Pitts, Paige & Chase Frock, Patrick & Genesis Harmony, Rachael Harmony, Katie & Matt Silver, and Nick Borges.
