George Robert Marye Jr., 86, known to his friends as “Buddy”, was born on January 31, 1938 in Dallas, Texas and passed away on September 24, 2024 in Dallas after a long illness. Buddy was also raised in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and SMU where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Buddy worked for Slaughter Brothers in Houston, Texas where he met the love of his life, Kitty Bates. Buddy and Kitty moved back to Dallas and after a brief engagement, got married on April 30, 1966.
Upon his return to Dallas, Buddy and Kitty resumed their love of fishing at Lake Texoma, square dancing, and taking care of their three children. After a long and successful career as an IBM salesman of the first-generation computers and servers, he retired at the age of 55. Buddy enjoyed his retirement and spent his time fishing, reading, traveling, and having breakfast with the “Zero Club” at their local McDonalds.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Dorothy Marye and his beloved dogs Kelsey and Markie. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kitty Marye, his children George Robert Marye III and Rachel, Eric Marye and Brooks, and Lisa and Danny Duffy. Buddy is also survived by his two loving sisters Gayle Hurst and Susan White. He was known as G-Daddy to his seven grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Gabby, George David, Robert Houghton, Gigi, Owen, Ella and Lilly.
Buddy and Kitty were longtime members of Zion Lutheran Church. Services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, 6121 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas Texas. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Zion Lutheran Church are encouraged.
