George Carroll Dyer Jr. passed away peacefully at home on June 19th, 2023. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 8th, 1930 to Kathleen Berry Dyer and George Carroll Dyer. George attended Corpus Christi High School and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After his service, he enrolled in the University of Houston graduating with a BS in Economics.
George had a long career in data processing, programming and project management, beginning as a programmer at Shell Oil in Houston and then at Texas Instruments. Later, he worked as a systems manager at RCA and manager of computer services at Transcontinental Gas, where he met Susan Kees. He became a senior consultant at Peat, Marwick, Mitchel & Co., where he designed and developed standardized school systems for the Texas Education Agency. In 1968, he married Susan Kees, and in 1970 they moved to Dallas when he accepted a position to work for Republic National Bank.
At Republic, he was responsible for design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems as well as project management responsibilities. George was assigned as task force manager to plan and accomplish the merger of the operations functions with the combined Republic and Interfirst corporations, to establish a new corporation, where he then retired as a Vice President of NCNB Texas.
George and Susan welcomed two sons, Jeff and Russell, and moved to University Park in 1975, where he continued to reside until his death.
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by loving wife Susan, sons Jeffrey Van Dyer and Russell Kees Dyer (Lindsay), five grandchildren including most recently Anderson Wylie Dyer, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons from his first marriage George Robert Dyer, Michael Lee Dyer and granddaughter Catherine Rebecca Dyer.
An informal reception to celebrate George’s life will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest on Wednesday, June 28th from 3pm to 5pm.
