George Henry Carman died on September 21, 2020. He was born September 23, 1928, in Albany, New York, son of Simon Peter Carman and Mary Emelia Whish. Raised in Binghamton, New York, he then attended Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences (B.A. with Distinction 1948). In 1947, he matriculated in Cornell University Medical College (M.D. 1951). Honors included Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha.
After Internal Medicine Residency (St. Louis, Salt Lake City), active duty in Medical Corps U.S. Army (Korea, Ft. Bragg and 3-year Cardiology Fellowship (Salt Lake City) he moved to Dallas, June 1960.
There he was engaged in full-time private office and hospital practice of Cardiology and Internal Medicine until retiring in June 1989. In active practice he served as Attending Physician at Baylor University Medical Center and Gaston Episcopal Hospital, both in Dallas. He also served on the Clinical Faculty of Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, being Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at retirement.
Professionally George was recognized as a talented physician and diagnostician, totally dedicated to the welfare of his patients. He was a Fellow American College of Physicians, Fellow American College of Cardiology and Fellow Council of Clinical Cardiology American Heart Association.
Non-professionally, he enjoyed travel, fine dining, genealogy, music and visual arts. Memberships included The Cornell Club New York, La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs (Commandeur), International Wine and Food Society, and Society of Genealogists (London).
He is survived by his sister Mary Lou of Kettering, Ohio; her two sons - John P. Van Tassel, wife Elizabeth and sons Jonathan and Joseph of Boise, ID, and James G Van Tassel wife Melissa of Dayton, Ohio; and beloved Jody VanAmburgh of Dallas. He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law James Henry Van Tassel.
