Born on August 31, 1946, in Orange, TX, Gail was the daughter of Dr. Carroll Bitting Shaddock, Jr. and Hulda Gaertner Shaddock. She attended Lutcher High School and earned her undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University, where she was a proud member of Chi Omega. She later received her master’s degree in mental health from Texas Woman's University.
A Licensed Professional Counselor, Gail dedicated her life to helping others, specializing in dissociative disorders, child therapy, family therapy and trauma and abuse recovery. Her compassion, empathy and playful sense of humor made her especially beloved by children. Her warmth helped clients feel comfortable enough to share their most painful experiences. Gail’s strong Christian faith was the foundation of her belief that true healing came from the Lord.
Gail’s creativity was evident in her work, where she used art, clay and a standing sandbox to help children express themselves. Her open and giving nature also made her a trusted counselor for adults who had experienced childhood trauma. Her practice thrived, as people were naturally drawn to her magnetic personality and genuine care for the wounded.
Gail met her husband, Michael, at Baruch Ha Shem, and they were happily married for 25 years. She often referred to him as the love of her life, and they chose Valentine’s Day for their wedding, believing the world could celebrate with them.
Gail is survived by her husband, Michael Rogers; her son Chad Cook, his wife, Michelle, and their son, Keegan; her daughter, Kimberly Cook Jones, and son-in-law, Matt Jones; their children, Grayson and Lilly; her brothers Peter Shaddock and Bill Shaddock, and Bill’s wife, Kim; sister-in-law Dorry Shaddock; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. C.B. Shaddock and Hulda Gaertner Shaddock; her brother Carroll Shaddock; her sister-in-law Phyllis Dunlap Shaddock; and her daughter Heather Shaddock Cook.
A service to celebrate Gail's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, at Highland Park United Methodist Church in the main sanctuary.
