December 19, 1934 – May 30, 2016
Fred was born in Tyler, Texas on December 19, 1934 and went to heaven on Memorial Day, May 30, 2016, in Dallas from complications of a stroke.
Fred’s parents were Fred Byron Jones, Sr. and Johnnie (Davis) Jones. He lived with his parents in Dallas’ Highland Park neighborhood before they settled in Hico.
Fred graduated from Hico High School in 1953. He played football for the Hico Tigers and even walked on while at Texas Tech. He worked in the off shore oil fields in Louisiana before returning to attend North Texas State University.
He joined the Army National Guard and was called up in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis. When he finished his active duty he was a Captain.
After his time in the Army, Fred met and married Tacie Lee Hall in King of Prussia, PA. They made their way back to Texas and had three children: Jennifer Jones Church (Steve), Jeffrey David Jones (Mari) and Jason Baldwin Jones (Jennifer). He has six beloved grandchildren: Jaxon Jones, Preslee Jones, Isabella Jones, Sophia Jones, Jones Church and Logan Church.
Even as a single father, he never missed an activity of his children. Always in the stands supporting them.
Fred lived the majority of his life in Dallas surrounded by his children, many friends and his beloved dogs. He was a life long salesman. And even after his retirement he always found jobs to keep him entertained.
A true gentleman, Fred was filled with kindness, laughter and curiosity. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his children, Fred is survived by his two brothers, Harvey Davis Jones and Jerry Frank Jones both of Austin.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that you contribute to the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be at Sparkman-Hillcrest in Dallas on Friday, June 3 at 3 p.m.
