Floyd Alexander

On Friday August 6, 2021 Floyd passed away at age 84. He was born August 3, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee to loving parents Ed and Katherine Alexander. He was raised in the Orange Mound Community and graduated from Melrose High School in Memphis. He confessed to Christ at an early age at The New Philadelphia Baptist Church. He married Effie Buggs and from that union they had two beautiful daughters, Crystal and Cheryl. Floyd and his youngest brother Dave took a course in Golf Club repair and fell in love with the trade. He worked for Bert Dargie Golf Company in Memphis. He moved to Houston Tx in 1967 and opened Alexander’s Golf Club Repair Shop. A first of its kind owned by an African American in the state of Texas.

Channel 11 News in Houston Tx interviewed this amazing man for his work and for his love of his community. He hired many in the community as it was his way of giving back. He wedded Mildred Gipson in 1971. He moved his business to Dallas Tx. He started in 1979 and had a long relationship at Cedar Crest Golf course and helped with launching business in the North Dallas area.

He also taught African American coaches at Texas Southern University to inspire young black students to become future Golfers.

Floyd joined the Church Of The Living God under the leadership of Pastor Fred H. Hite Jr. In Dallas Tx. He worked at Dallas airport as a Bellman and at the Dallas school system as a Crossing Guard. He loved to cook and was an avid television watcher of golf. Floyd was a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan. He loved people and they loved him back. His longtime best friend Mr. J.W. White, good friends Ms.Velma Chism and Ms. Linda Smith mourned his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Katherine Alexander. His sister Katherine Lee, brothers Ed, William, Lester, James and David. He is survived by his daughters Crystal (Merino) Pointer and Cheryl Mason. He leaves six grandchildren, Joseph(Tawanna), Carlos(Marletha), Demario(Talaunda), Darrius, Toni and Ashley and six great grandchildren. An aunt Vera Bond. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
