Evelyn Yvonne Reynolds, age 93 of Oak Cliff, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. Services for Mrs. Reynolds will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Laurel Land Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Forrester officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park under the direction of Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reynolds was born in Oak Cliff on August 26, 1926, and lived there for most of her life. She married Rolland C. Reynolds on December 21, 1946, and they were married for 43 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas for many years.
Mrs. Reynolds studied piano early in life with Eugenia O’Reilly, and later with Dr. Paul Van Katwijk at Southern Methodist University School of Music. She then went on to become one of the leading piano teachers in Dallas over 50 years.
Mrs. Reynolds was a member of the Dallas Music Teachers Association, the Texas Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association since 1945, and served as faculty at Mountain View Junior College. She served as President, and held most other offices, of the Dallas Music Teachers Association over her career, and received many awards including the Mountain View Junior College Outstanding Contributions Award, and the Texas Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award. She was frequently called upon to serve as judge for numerous pre-college piano competitions across the state. Her students were commonly winners of highly competitive piano competitions, and performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra, Amarillo Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony, University of Texas Symphony, Baylor University Symphony, Houston Baptist College Symphony Orchestra, East Texas State University Symphony, North Texas State University Orchestra and others. Many of her former students have gone on to teach piano in Dallas as well as across the country.
Mrs. Reynolds was preceded in death by her husband, Rolland C. Reynolds; her parents, Albert D. and Allie Mae Underwood; four brothers, Ralph K. Underwood, Don Albert Underwood, Dan E. Underwood and Bobby Glen Underwood. She is survived by her son, Rolland C. “Randy” Reynolds, Jr and his wife Wanda; her sister, Ruth Lavonne Day; nieces Jo Ann Wells and Vicki Yvonne Blair, and many grand nieces and nephews.
