Evelyn Gertrude Miller, 99 years old of Dallas,Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Mena, AR where she was living at Peach Tree Assisted Living for 18 months, where she was cared for by a very loving staff and her niece, Kathy Coppinger.
Evelyn was born at home near Marthaville, LA on 11/20/1924 to James and Nellie Pilgram. She had one sister and three brothers, one brother Gene died in gunnery battle with many German airplanes. He was 23 and he received the silver star medal. She was very proud of him.
Evelyn graduated from high school and attended one year at Northwestern State College. She met Dudley Miller who was working construction at the time in her town and had just returned from overseas. They married within weeks on August 24, 1947 and were together in Dallas, Texas for 68 years before his passing in December 2012.
Evelyn had no children but was surrounded by many nieces and nephews who spent wonderful moments eating her amazing food, being loved deeply and having a wonderful time. Some for the day, some for a week, months or years at times. Her home was always open to family.
Evelyn and Dudley worked their early years at seperate jobs before beginning their own business which evolved from heavy equipment operation to automotive sales and repairs. She ran the office, taxes, bills, and also cooked homemade meals for the two of them and often the work crew everyday.
Evelyn is preceded in death, by her parents, all of her brothers and sisters and many of her nieces and nephews. She had a very large family of nieces and nephews, great and great-great, of which many are still here to miss her very much.
Evelyn and Dudley attended Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 1324 Pleasant Drive, Dallas, TX 75127 (where donations can be made in lieu of flowers). She was a very active member for 50+ years.
