Ethel Kathleen Smith of Plano, TX passed away on April 29, 2013 in Plano. Kathleen was 96 years old. She was born in Caddo Mills, TX to Marvin Hendrix and Ethel Lena (Lindsey) Chenault on June 9, 1916. She married Clayton Alvia Smith on September 12, 1937. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended Hardin Simmons College.
Kathleen actively supported her sons in Scouting as a den mother, in sports and extra-curricular activities and in education as an active member and president of the PTA in their schools. She kept a study hall at W. W. Samuell High School for about 15 years. There she played a very active role in getting the para-professional education employees into the Texas State Teachers Association. She and her family joined Pleasant Mound Methodist Church in 1946 where she served in many areas including singing in the choir. In later years, she and Clayton joined other members of the church choir to form the Old Masters to provide music to many organizations in the area. She remained an active member until she moved from the area in 1995. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Custer Road United Methodist Church.
Kathleen is survived by her son Richard Clayton Smith and his wife Janet of Celina, TX; son Jerrald Wayne Smith and wife Sherry of Plano, TX; grandson Richard Smith of Houston, TX; granddaughter Kimberly Ford and husband Charles of Houston, TX; grandson Jerrald, Jr. of Plano; great grandson and great granddaughter Andrew and Audrey Kate of Houston; step-grandson Dan Rose and his wife Debra; step-granddaughter Dana Gescheidle of Richardson, TX; step-great grandsons Christopher Rose of Little Elm and Stephen Rose and Benjamin Rose of Ft. Worth; and step-great granddaughter Sarah Rose of Ft. Worth.
She was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Ethel Chenault, her husband Clayton Smith and her brother Marvin Chenault, Jr.
Visitation for Kathleen will be at Grove Hill Funeral Home on Friday, May 3rd, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and services will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at 2:00pm in the Chapel at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Gove Hill Memorial Park. Following the service and burial, dinner will be in the dining area at Grove Hill.
