Marie is survived by her sons Al Phillips and his wife Jan of Sunnyvale, TX and Steve Phillips and his wife Joy of Missouri City, TX; her grand children Blair (and Laura) Phillips, Lance (and Anne) Phillips, Taylor (and Myles) Keough, Tia (and Jameson) Fulford; and great grandchildren Carter, Madison, Avery, Riley, and Hudson. She is also survived by her sister Lois Ann (and James) Luker in Colorado. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 50 years Chester in 1998, and she missed him every day of her remaining life. She was also preceded in death by her younger brother Arthur (Buddy) Penn and his wife Annette.
Marie was born on August 11, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas to Charles and Lorraine Penn. She graduated from Adamson High School in 1950 and married her sweetheart Chester on her 18th birthday. She welcomed into their household her mother-in-law Ruth and helped care for her the rest of Ruth’s life. She and Chester spent their entire married life living in Oak Cliff. They loved to travel and were active in the Trinity Oaks and Rolling Hills Churches of Christ, where Chester was an elder. She loved being a wife and mother, but her proudest duty was as grandmother, where her most treasured name became Mamaw, for which her family most frequently refers to her as.
After Chester’s sudden passing, Marie lived independently for 15 years until an accident necessitated her to move to Christian Care Center of Mesquite, where she remained the rest of her life. There she was known for her wit and her willingness to speak her own mind. A sudden decline in her health in late 2024 ultimately led to her passing, and now she will be reunited with Chester in the heavenly realms that Christ has prepared.
A memorial will be held on May 4th at Christian Care Center of Mesquite at 2:00
