On Monday, November 6th, 2023, Ernest Travis Smith passed peacefully in Midlothian with his wife of 63 years, his two sons and daughter-in laws a grandson and friends and family by his side. He was born October 22nd 1940, in Dallas, Texas. Travis will be remembered with much love and cherished memories by his loving wife of 63 years Patricia. Son Paul Smith wife Karen, Son Jeremiah Smith wife Martha, grandson Clint Smith wife Chelsea, granddaughter Kendall Smith, grandson Zachary Smith wife to be Hanna, granddaughter Hannah Bishop husband Brenden, Granddaughter Christian Smith, grandson Caleb Smith, granddaughter Claire Smith, great granddaughter Madison Smith and brother-in-law Leonard Furr.
Travis was proceeded in death by his parents Ernest and Buena Smith, his oldest son Timothy Smith, brother- in-law Bill Green and sister Barbara Green.
Travis will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
He was 83 years old and spent his final days by his wife’s side and celebrating the marriage of his granddaughter Hannah and celebrating his birthday along with his birthday buddy his grandson Caleb.
Travis was an auto mechanic from an early age with his father Ernest. He later took over the family auto repair business and over the years developed many dedicated customers that respected him for his honesty and expertise. Many of his customer would later follow Travis as he moved on.
Travis had a special gift of humility that drew people to trust and consider him as a trusted friend.
In is his later years when he was not physically able to work on cars. He worked at O’Reilly Auto Parts delivering parts. While at O’Reilly he developed a friendship with his co-workers and customers.
Travis attended Northside Baptist Church in Duncanville where he led the youth boys in RA’s teaching bible lessons, camping, track meets and attending Baylor football games with the boys. Travis also had a heart of compassion for people with special needs.
Travis favorite past times included family cookouts and family time, movies, car races, attending football games, playing forty-two with friends and family, playing with his grandkids, helping friends and family with cars and most of all beating you in a game of checkers or tic-tac-toe.
