Emma ‘Gigi’ was born March 28, 1922 in Tolbert, TX to William R. and Nannie Alderson. She grew up in Vernon, TX attending South Lockett High School before moving to the Dallas area and settling in Arcadia Park, TX. Emma and Wylie Weeks Harris were married August 27, 1944 in Arcadia Park United Methodist Church where they were charter members. Emma loved God and her family. Her love of babies was evident through her work at AP United Methodist Church where she was in charge of the nursery for several years. Emma lived her life with God first, family second then everything else. She taught those same valuable priorities to her family throughout the generations and was the person anyone in her family could go to for advice and without judgment. She was truly known for her love and kindness to everyone she came in contact with. She was a longtime member of AP United Methodist Church prior to her moving to Cleburne, Texas, to live with her daughter, Brenda and husband Ben. After moving to Cleburne she became a member of Crossroads Church of Cleburne and was a regular attender before going into Ridgeview Nursing Home in 2013. She will be missed by family and numerous friends.
She is Survived by her sons; Leonard Harris and Grace of (Richardson, TX); Robert Harris and Mary of (Arlington, TX); Daughters; Brenda Ortega and Nancy Borden husband, Ron of (Gun Barrel City, TX); Sister-in-law Wilma Alderson of (Caddo, OK); along with several grandchildren: Lacy, Lori, Debra, Robert, Brandy, Jason, Joseph, Emmalee, Todd and Heather and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Emma is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Wylie Weeks Harris; brothers and sisters: Homer and Bob Alderson; Christine, Wayne, Mary and Ray McCollom; Ruby and Kenneth Miller and Lola Mae and Bill Wheeler.
A funeral service for Emma, 97, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Laurel Land Funeral Home, Dallas. Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
The family expresses appreciation for the prayers received and to all who provided care for Emma in her later years.
