Emily Reed Busch Howell Turner was gloriously received into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, December 17, 2021. She was born in Dallas, Texas on June 4, 1928. She is survived by Carol Joy Hagens, of Plano, Texas, and married to Patt Hagens; Floyd Edwin Howell 111, of Dallas, Texas, and married to Claudia Behn Howell; and Edith Emily Eichler, of Fairview, North Carolina, and married to Kenneth William Eichler, Sr. One stepdaughter; Anne Turner Beletic. The deceased is survived by five grandchildren: Aimee Rose Howell, Autumn Michelle Howell- Davis, Emma Mae Howell, Kenneth William Eichler, Jr., and Katie Beletic. Also surviving are four step-grandchildren; Joshua, Nathan, Cherry, and Rachel Hagens and 6 great grandchildren. Emily Reed Turner was predeceased by her parents, John Busch and Mary Gober Busch, her sister, Carol Snodgrass, her husband, Jere Dickson Turner, former husband and close friend, Floyd Edwin Howell 11, her stepson, Stephen Baker Turner, and by her grandson, Sean Edwin Luis Murray, the child of Carol Joy Hagens.
Emily Reed Turner graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas and from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma with a B.A, in Psychology. She worked for the Federal Government for 30 years. She started as a GS-3 and retired at GS-13. In 1966, she was only the second woman in the U.S. hired as a Civil Service Commission Investigator and traveled to the Deep South as a Voting Rights Specialist.Later in her career, she attained the highest level of security clearance as an Industrial Security Specialist for the U.S. Defense Department. At the time, she was one of only two women in the U.S. in the position of Defense Specialist.
Mrs. Turner was a volunteer at the following organizations in Dallas: Society for Professionals in Dispute Resolution, VAMS Volunteers Against Multiple Sclerosis, Race for the Cure, and an Elder at Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church. In addition, she was frequently asked to speak in both the public and private sectors on sex discrimination in the workplace and Dispute Resolution.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 15, at Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church, 8525 Audelia Rd., Dallas, Texas. The service will be live streamed on the website lhpres.org.
