Elnora “Nora” Lewis Clark was born on April 23, 1937, to the late John Lewis and Estelle Cage and was the first born of her 13 siblings. Elnora received her early education in Woodville, Mississippi, high school education in Natchez, Mississippi, and later earned a nursing diploma from Capitol Area Vocational Nursing School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Sister Clark accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the early age of twelve in 1949. She was baptized by the late Rev. Eli Wilson at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and later joined St. John Baptist Church No.1 in Woodville, Mississippi. After moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1960, she found her church home at Belfair Baptist Church in 1972. Sister Clark remained an active member of Belfair until her health failed and she relocated to Fort Worth, Texas where she then joined St. John Church Unleashed of Grand Prairie, Texas under watch care. As a dedicated and faithful servant through the years, Sister Clark served on several ministries to include the Church Secretary, Pastor Aid Club, Trustee Board, Choir, and Deaconess Board.
While living in Baton Rouge, Elnora met and married her husband of 27 years, the late Roosevelt Clark. She is the mother of one child, Barbara Martin; one grandchild, Veronica Martin-Spears; and two great-grandchildren, Donald Spears II and Braelyn Spears Lindsey. She dedicated her life to family and was the family historian and true matriarch. If ever you needed to know our family history, she could always provide the story and details.
Elnora’s commitment to service began with her nursing career at Baton Rouge General Hospital in 1971. In 1981, she resigned to serve as a community nurse at Eden Park Health and Referral Center. After several years, she then returned to Baton Rouge General Hospital and continued 32 years of employment before retiring in July of 2002.
Elnora was a Christian woman of great faith. She was a strong, giving, thoughtful lady who loved the Lord. Her nurturing spirit shined as she cared for many family members throughout the years. When needed, she was always there to care for the ill. Her love for her family was unconditional and endless. Most of all, she loved wearing hats, spending time with family, gardening, and cooking. If you visited her home, you would find her yard adorned with lush greenery, fruit trees, a seasonal garden, and always something for you to eat. She was an excellent cook and loved to host family gatherings.
Elnora transitioned quietly to her eternal heavenly home on January 23, 2025, while surrounded by members of her family.
