Mrs. Ella Jeanne (Whitis) Thoma Moore

Jeanne was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico on January 15, 1933. She was the first child of Robert Benjamine and Annie Oletha Burton Whitis. She passed away on May 27, 2018 following a lengthy illness. Jeanne was proceeded in death by her father and mother, and is survived by her husband Harold Moore, and daughter Nancy Renfro and husband David; along with son, Anthony and wife Melanie and their children, Alexis, Logan, Kylie, and Colton; son Matthew and wife Kelly, and their child Maxwell; daughter, Paula Davis and husband, James; son Collin and wife, Kacy and their child Wilson; daughter Bethany Davis; and daughter Trudy Dee and husband Albert; son Robert and wife Christi, and children, Maren, and Mia; and daughter Mikaela Dee. Harold has six children from his previous marriage: Katherine Bostick, Billy McRee, Jeannie Blair, Norman McRee, Barry McRee, and Tim Moore. Jeanne also leaves numerous nieces and nephews that she loved, too.

Her family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1942. She has two sisters: Bobbie Stoker, Patricia Ann McGarity and husband, Wayne; and brother Robert Van Whitis and wife Sandra Whitis. Jeanne attended Dallas schools and graduated from Sunset High School with the class of 1950.

Jeanne’s family attended Clarendon Drive Baptist Church in Dallas. There she met and married Kenneth Edgar Thoma. They were married in Dallas, Texas on August 25, 1950. They started a family and Kenneth built their home in Dallas, Texas. They had a wonderful marriage for 48 years. Later on, Kenneth became ill and went to be with the Lord on January 5, 1998.

In 1977 Jeanne decided she wanted to go to work and started working at Dallas County Treasurer’s office. In 1978, she began as an accounting clerk, becoming a Trust Officer in 1979. In 1984 she was promoted to Assistant Chief Deputy, and in 1986 she became Chief Deputy. She was employed in the Dallas County Treasurer’s office for some 22 years and served as Chief Deputy 14 years, until her retirement in 2000.

A friend of Jeanne’s, whose brother, Harold, had gone to Clarendon Drive Baptist Church 48 years earlier, was re-introduced to Jeanne. They dated for a while and then married November 15, 2003. They enjoyed traveling in their RV and doing church work with other couples associated with the men’s Volunteer Christian Builders throughout the United States. They live in Plano. Harold was a wonderful and faithful husband and was her primary caregiver for the last 6 years.
