“Libby”
Libby was born in Indianapolis on October 25, 1946 to Francis and Mary McBride and passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2012 after a strong and courageous battle with lung cancer. Libby attended Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and school and Ursuline Academy. She graduated from North Texas University and did graduate work at the University of Tulsa.
She was one of four siblings: Michael McBride of Tacoma, Washington; Patricia McBride-Warren, deceased; and Kathy Figenschue of Irving.
Libby was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Lynn; son Mark Meyer and wife Cindy; granddaughter Leeza. Libby and Lynn met at UTA in 1965 and they were married at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on April 12, 1971. They lived in Dallas; Benton Harbor, Michigan; Tulsa, Oklahoma and returned to Dallas in 1985.
Their son, Mark Meyer of Grand Prairie, was born September 11, 1973. Libby loved being a mother and fighting for her son who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 6 months. Mark is healthy and strong today because of the endless love and caring she and Lynn had for Mark’s care.
Libby’s life revolved around her love of family and teaching. She began teaching in Dallas, continued at Beggs Elementary School in Oklahoma and finished at Peeler Elementary School in Dallas. She taught for over 17 years and loved helping children. She was always taking care of everyone and thought children should come first, especially her granddaughter. Libby was caring and a people person. By the end of the first day of school she knew all her students by name. She was considered an excellent teacher who often had the most improved students each year. She also mentored other teachers.
Libby was a wonderful person to know and a wonderful cook. Her yummy meals and dishes will be missed by all especially her extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also grateful, generous, thoughtful, strong yet sensitive and a courageous fighter, especially in her final years. We will miss her deeply and remember her fondly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave., Dallas, TX 75214. Libby will have her ashes sprinkled over the graves of her parents at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Donations may be made in her name to a very personal charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org
